Washington County Commissioners
The Washington County Commission is made up of three commissioners which represent Washington County. Each commissioner is elected to a four year term and serves constituents from one of three districts.
David Burns was born in Gardiner, Maine in 1949. His family moved to Whiting in
1965 and he graduated from Washington Academy in 1967. David and wife Donna
(Jones) Burns have been married over 55 years and have five children, Rebecca,
Robert, Gregory, Eric and Mary. He joined the Maine State Police in 1970 where
he served for 24 years.
David has been involved in public service throughout his adult life. He spent 25
years serving on school boards, both public and private, a town official since the
1990’s, eight years in the Legislature, both in the House of Representatives and
Senate, many boards and commissions and his career in Law Enforcement.
Commissioner Burns is committed to serving the citizens of Washington County
and help WC Government to be efficient and responsive to their needs. He
desires to keep Washington County one of the best places in Maine to be in
private business, live and raise families and to visit, while enjoying the numerous
natural resources we enjoy here.
Commissioner John Crowley has a long and distinguished career of public service, both as a non-commissioned officer in the USAF where he received the Silver Star for Heroism, as a county law enforcement official, and as a member of the Maine State Guard.
After his military service, Commissioner Crowley received 2,000 hours of training in the VA Law Enforcement Training Course and then worked his way up through the Washington County Sheriff’s Department to serve as Sheriff from 1991-1998.
Commissioner Crowley continues to be active in his community and is a strong supporter of any activities that focus on increased economic activity in Washington County.
